1.75 lakh policemen to be deployed for polls

Asad Al Mahmud: About 1.75 lakh policemen will be deployed across the country to ensure security in the 11th national election.

Sources said that police forces have made a plan to provide security to the aspirants, voters, presiding officers and returning officers. The policemen will work with other forcers jointly. Although, the military, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel and Ansar men will be deployed but, the main tasks will be done by police forces.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary said, about 1.75 lakh policemen will be deployed across the country before election. Some of police members will work from 8 to 12 hours in a day. 

The Election Commission arranged a three-tier security system to ensure normal election atmosphere with coordination of law enforcing agencies.

Members of the armed forces, BGB, Coast Guard and Ansar have been deployed as mobile or strike forces from December 24. Each of the teams are cooperated with the executive magistrate of the constituency concerned.

Besides, 14 members including policemen, Ansar and village policemen will be deployed in every voting center outside of Metropolitans.
