12 percent tax not at all desirable for green industry

Economic Correspondent: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Siddiqur Rahman said tax has been proposed 12 percent for green industry from the existing 10 percent which is not desirable at all.

He said, “In the proposed budget, corporate has been lessened 2.5 percent in banking sector. But it has been made 12 percent from 10 percent in the production-oriented apparel industry which is not at all desirable.”

He came up with the comments while speaking in a post budget reaction at BGMEA office in the capital on Saturday.

In the press conference, he said, ““We think the increased corporate tax rate would discourage the entrepreneurs of the apparel sector.”

He urged the government to reconsider the corporate tax rate by fixing it 10 percent to continue the growth of the sector.
