2 die taking cough syrup in Kushtia

Kushtia Correspondent: At least two persons died after taking cough syrup at Mirpur upazila in the district on Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Nur Mohammad, 50 and her daughter Shamima, 9.

Locals said that Nur went to the house of Nawab at night to watch television. Nawab gave him an herbal medicine ‘Mary Gold’ of ‘Nabin Laboratory’ as he was suffering from cough.

Nawab and his daughter Shamima also took the same medicine for cough. Shamima fell sick around 10:30pm and she was taken to Bheramara Upazila Health Complex.

Dr. Mizanur Rahman, medical officer of the hospital, said Shamima died before she was brought to the hospital. The condition of Nawab Ali is also critical.

Confirming the matter, Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station said that police recovered the bodies.
