2 ‘robbers’ killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

Cumilla Correspondent: Two suspected robbers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Titas upazila of the district early Friday.

Four policemen were injured in the ‘gunfight’. Policemen also detained five suspected robbers from the spot.

The deceased were identified as Al Amin, son of Khorshed Alam at Maniknagar village of the upazila and Ershad Mia, son of Nurul Islam at Kongshonagar village of Burichong upazila.

According to sources, a joint team of DB and police carried out a drive near a graveyard in Narandia area of Titas on secret information that a gang of some 12-13 robbers were attempting to commit robbery. The robbers opened fire at the law enforcers, enforcing them to fire back in retaliation. Police managed to catch seven robbers while the rests fled away. Two of the detainees sustained bullet injuries in the shootout. After being taken to Titas Upazila Health Complex, they were pronounced dead by the duty physician.
