20 held during block raid at Savar

Staff Correspondent, Savar: Police detained at least 20 people following a block raid conducted on a number of houses in Kaundia union of Savar suspecting the presence of militants there.

The raid started on Wednesday afternoon and ended around 1:00am.

Dhaka district police senior ASP Mahbubur Rahman said of the detainees, three have been detained on suspicion of militants while other detainees are the convicted accused in many cases. Police have recovered local weapons and jihadi books from their possession.

More than three hundred members of Dhaka district police took part in the block raid. Splitting into 15 separate groups, they carried out the raid at different parts of the union.
