20 sentenced to life imprisonment for killing two policemen

Staff Correspondent: 20 outlawed party men have been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing two policemen in Madaripur district.

Judge Monir Kamal of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 of Dhaka passed the order on Wednesday.

The court has also fined them Tk 10,000, in default the convicts have to serve three month more imprisonment. The court has acquitted 6 others in the case.

The convicts are - Abdul Aziz alias Samad Kha alias Samad Member, Jasim Sheikh, Mashim Sheikh, Chhahed Matubbar alias Chhahed, Majnu Matubbar, Sattar Talukder, Shahadat Akon, Uzzal Hawlader, Jafar Matubbar, Kubbas Matubbar, Dabir Molla, Dadon Fakir alias Dadon Tailor , Mosharraf Hossain, Motaleb Matubbar alias Motaleb Member, Amir Hossain Sheikh, Faiz Sheikh, Dipu alias Tipu Biswas, Sumon alias Shamim, Aslam alias Nurul Islam Babu alias Babul, Mosharaf Sheikh, Ashrab Sharif, Halim Akon, Miraj Sikder, Nazrul alias Nurul Islam, Masud Sikder, Helal Sikder, Bazlu Akon, Azad Molla, Amo Mollah alias Hemayet Mollah alias Munshi Mollah, Shawkat Molla alias Sagu Member, Sumon Bagha and Abul Kashem Mollah.

According to the case statement, Special Branch SI Hasnain Azam Khan and Md Kamrul Alam Khan, an office assistant, were stopped by the members of the gang on April 3, 2005. They were riding a motorcycle.

Later they were killed and their bodies cut into pieces. The pieces were then floated off into the Sri River.

On August 6, 2007, the then officer-in-charge of Madaripur’s Rajoir Police Station Ekram Molla submitted the charge sheet accusing 32 people and the speedy trial tribunal framed the charges against them on May 4, 2008.

Four accused of them were killed in a gunfight and two others died during the trial.
