285 colleges selected for nationalisation

Staff Correspondent: The government has initiated a move to nationalise 285 private colleges across the country.

According to a ministry notice issued in this regard on Thursday last, the authorities of the colleges were asked to hand over movable and immovable properties of the colleges to the government as per the decision.

The Secondary and Higher Secondary Division under the Education Ministry also asked the authorities of the colleges to send deeds of gift to the ministry.

Education ministry source said one college in each upazila will be nationalised according to the government plan.

Existing teachers of the colleges will not be able to transfer to any colleges for the time being, the notice said.

At present, there are 327 government colleges in the country. Once the 285 colleges are nationalised, the total number of the government will stand over 6 hundred, the source said.
