2nd phase Ijtema ends seeking divine blessings

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: The three-day second phase Biswa Ijtema, one of the largest congregation of the Muslims, at Tongi, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka ended with millions of devotees from home and abroad taking part in the `Akheri Munajat` (concluding prayers) on Sunday.
Imam of Kakrail Mosque Hafej Mohammad Zobaer Akheri conducted the munajat seeking global peace, unity and welfare of the Muslim Ummah along with salvation in the world hereafter.
The Akheri Munajat amid resounding of the word `amin` and tears rolling down from the eyes of pious Muslims, began at 10.15am.
Tens of thousands of Muslims from home and abroad participated in the second phase Ijtema.
Loudspeakers were set up at all directions beyond the Ijtema ground to facilitate people to listen the munajat.
The second phase of 53rd Biswa Ijtema began with 'Aam Bayan' (general sermons) by noted scholars after Fazr prayers on Friday.
On Friday, lakhs of pilgrims and a large number of people from the capital Dhaka and adjacent areas joined Jumma prayers on Biswa Ijtema ground.
Gazipur City Corporation, district administration, police, RAB and Ansar and VDP set up five separate control rooms to monitor the overall activities of the Tongi Ijtema.
3.54 lakh gallons of fresh water was supplied everyday through 18.50 kilometer pipelines from 13 deep tube-wells and 21 trucks were engaged in removing garbage from the Ijtema ground.
A seven-tier security measure was taken with deployment of 7,000 policemen and about 250 RAB members to avert any untoward incident during the Ijtema.
According to the sources, 15 watch towers and 41 close circuit camera televisions were set up in and around the Ijtema ground alongside deployment of bomb disposal units and dog squads to ensure foolproof security of the Biswa Ijtema.
Fifty medical teams and 14 ambulances provided health care services to the devotees during the three-day congregation.
The first phase of the Ijtema was held from January 13-15 at the same venue.
Tablig Jamaat has been organizing the Ijtema at this venue since 1967. However, the Ijtema is held in two phases since 2011 to ease the accommodation problem.
