3G, 4G internet services suspended

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has suspended all 3G and 4G services for 33 hours a day before the 11th parliamentary elections.

Jakir Hossain Khan, senior assistant director (media) of BTRC, came up with the order on Saturday.

“Directions have been made to keep 3G and 4G internet services closed for the security of the state and preventing rumours till the midnight of Election Day,” Jakir Hossain said.

The move has been initiated upon instruction from the Election Commission (EC), he said.

Earlier, the EC sat with the BTRC and mobile operator companies to suspend high-speed internet on the day of voting on Sunday (December 30).

Mobile data users across the country faced similar disruption from Thursday (December 27) midnight to Friday (December 28) morning.
