4 ‘drug traders’ killed in Teknaf ‘gunfights’

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Four alleged drug traders were killed in separate two ‘gunfights’ with police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila early Friday.
The gunfight took place in Hoaingkong and Sabrang areas.
Two of the deceased were identified as Nazir Ahmed, 30, son of Abdul Jalil at Chowdhurypara of Teknaf municipality, and Gias Uddin, son of Md Jakaria.
Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradip Kumar Das said two ‘drug traders’ were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Hoaingkong. A police team conducted a drive in the area acting on a tip-off. When they reached the spot, the criminals opened fired, triggering a gunfight, the OC said. Later, police recovered two bodies, OC Pradip said.
Police also recovered two firearms and 6,000 yaba pills from the spot.
In another incident, two suspected drug traders were killed in an alleged gunfight with BGB members.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Lieutenant Colonel Asaduzzaman Chowdhury said a team of BGB-2 raided the area after being tipped off about the smuggling of a huge consignment of yaba.
“The smugglers opened fire on the BGB team as soon as they reached the spot, triggering a gunfight,” he claimed. “Later, the bodies of two drug traders were recovered from the spot.”
One lakh yaba pills and a native weapon were recovered, Asaduzzaman Chowdhury said.
