Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Four people were killed and 25 others injured as a Dhaka-bound commuter train derailed in Tongi of Gazipur on Sunday.
The details about the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
The incident took place at Notunbazar area near Tongi railway station. Since the incident, rail communication between Gazipur and northern parts of the country remained suspended.
Senior Station Officer of Tongi Fire Station Atikul Islam said the commuter train was going to Dhaka from Jamalpur. Five bogies of the train derailed when it reached Notunbazar area at noon, leaving its four passengers dead and 25 others injured.
Being informed, locals and fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered them, he said.
Later, the injured were sent to different hospitals, he added.
Tongi hospital’s RMO Parvez Hossain said five people who were critically injured during the derailment were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
