4 killed in Meherpur 'gunfight'

Meherpur Correspondent: Four people were killed and six police members injured in a “gunfight” with police at Nurpur Mor in Sadar upazila of the district early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Saddam Hossain, 25, son of Bhodu Malita; Romesh, 24, son of Rosmoy Karmakar; Shohag, 25, son of Monirul Islam; Kanon Kha, 25, son of Kalam Kha and the injured were taken to Meherpur general hospital.

Police claimed that the killed four were known as terrorists in the area. Police also suspected that the four criminals are accused in a case filed in connection with a double murder at Sonapur village of the upazila.

Additional Police Super Abdullah Al Mahmud said a team of police chased several terrorists around 2:30am. The terrorists fired aiming at police when they reached Nurpur Mor in Sadar upazila. In retaliation, police also fired back that left four terrorists dead on the spot and six police members including an assistant police super named Ahsan Habib injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Meherpur general hospital, the police official said.
