Secretariat Correspondent: Mobile phone users in the country will be able to experience 4G service from today following the handover of 4G/LTE licences to telecom regulators.
Following previous announcement, mobile phone operators will launch the 4G service to their customers as soon as they obtain the licence from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) this evening.
Sources said that BTRC will hand over the 4G/LTE licenses to the operators with the presence of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar and BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood through a ceremony at Dhaka Club.
Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) is scheduled to organize the function where Telecommunications Division Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder will attend as a special guest.
On February 13, the regulator held 4G spectrum auction and provided spectrum technology neutrality which the operators had been requesting since long. Representatives led by Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Foley and Banglalink CEO Erik Aas joined that programme at Dhaka Club.
