4th phase polls in 107 upazilas underway

Staff Correpondent: The fourth phase election to 107 upazilas began amid tight security on Sunday.  

The voting that began at 8:00am will continue till 4:00pm without any break.

In the fourth phase upazila polls, chairmen of 16 districts, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman are contesting under party banner.

About 1.5 lakh law and enforcers including RAB, police, Ansar, APBn personnel were deployed in the upazila polls. Besides, Election Commission deployed additional forces in 50 upazilas citing risk issue.

Over 2.55 crore people are expected to cast their votes in 9,740 centres.

The election to six upazilas are being held using electronic voting machines (EVM) completely in the fourth phase. The six upazilas are – Bagerhat sadar (91 centers), Feni sadar (127 centers), Munshiganj sadar (116 centers), Mymensingh sadar (100 centers), Patuakhali sadar (89 centers) and Cox's Bazar sadar.
