No polls for convicts sentenced to over 2yrs: HC

Staff Correspondent: Five BNP leaders including Aman Ullah Aman, who were convicted in different corruption cases, will not be able to participate in the upcoming national election as their cases are now pending with the Appellate Division.

The High Court dismissed a petition seeking acquittal from their conviction on Tuesday.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order.

At the same time, the court also ordered that no person will be able to participate in the election who was jailed for over two years in the lower court  and whose appeal petition is pending with the Appellate Division.

The other 4 leaders are Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan, Abdul Wahab and Moshiur Rahman.
