5 killed as train rams car in Gazipur

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: A train rammed a private car on a level crossing in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur leaving five people including four members of a family dead.

 

The incident happened on Sunday morning at Nayanagar area of the upazila as Kolkata bound Maitree Express rammed the car.

 

Five people on the car - two women and two more children along with the driver of the car - were killed on the spot.

 

The deceased are identified as Nushrat Jahan Lucky, 30, wife of Ripon of Goalbathan village of the area, their 5-year old daughter Rubaida Nushrat Riva, Socia Akter, 29, wife of Biddyut, cousin of Ripon, his five-year old son Tahsin Ahmed Talha and Minhaz Uddin, 45, driver of the car.

 

Rubaida and Talha were Play Group students of a Christian Mission School in the area where they were going on the car owned by Ripon.


 
Confirming the matter, Kaliakair Police Station Sub-Inspector Russel Sheikh said the private car was trying to cross an unfenced rail crossing in the area when the Maitree Express train came from Dhaka on the spot and rammed the car.

 

Md. Shahidul Islam, station master of Joydebpur Railway Junction, train communication between Dhaka and the northern parts of the country remains halted due to the accident.
