‘5,000 doctors to be appointed by 2 months’

Parliament Correspondent: The government will recruit 5,000 doctors within the next two months aimed at minimizing the shortage of physicians across the country.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said this responding to a supplementary question from treasury member Atiur Rahman Atik in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.

He further said, “The government would appoint 10,000 physicians for mitigating the crisis of doctors across the country.”

Replying to another supplementary from opposition bench member Fakhrul Imam, the health minister said the health ministry is a big ministry as around 16 crore people across the country are getting healthcare services through it.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has received many awards for Bangladesh’s success in the health sector. The life expectancy of Bangladeshis has increased to 72 and child and maternal death rate has declined significantly,” he informed the House.
