5,37,000 families incur to losses by flood in Rangpur

Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: A number of 5,36,987 families incurred losses by flood in Rangpur division, according to a draft of damages made by divisional administration.

It has been learnt that districts of the division witnessed flood for the second time as water increased in rivers including Teesta, Brahmaputra, Ghaghot, Dhorola, Dudhkumar, Atrai, Karatoa, Punarbhoba, Ratnai.

Though flood situation improved in some places, many of the areas in Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Gaibandha and Rangpur still remain under water.



Flood caused severed damages in Dinajpur and Kurigram district. Lalmonirhat is in the third place in the list.

River protecting dams were collapsed by the flood at different areas. Hundreds of kilometer roads have become unfit to move vehicles.  Flood caused collapse of thousands of houses and damaged food grains. More than one crore people incurred to losses by the flood directly or indirectly. Damages of food grain might create food crisis across the country.

Shah Alam, Additional director of Rangpur Agricultural Extension Department, said actual agricultural damages by flood has yet not been fixed. The damages will be recorded after getting information from different districts and upazilas.
