54 Sundarbans bandits to surrender today

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: A total of fifty-four forest bandits of the Sundarbans will give up their arms and surrender to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in Bagerhat town today (Thursday).
The bandits, from six groups, will surrender along with their weapons —58 firearms and 3351 round of bullet — at Sheikh Helal Uddin Stadium at Bagerhat Sadar.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be connected with the function through video- conference from her official Gono Bhaban residence.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will attend the function as chief guest while Forest and Environment Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda, Sheikh Helal Uddin, MP, and Director General (DG) of RAB Benzir Ahmed will be present as special guests at the function.
The Home Minister, on behalf of the Prime Minister, will also handover cheques for Taka one lakh to 84 bandits each from nine groups, who earlier surrendered, during today’s programme.
