65-day ban on fishing in Bay of Bengal

Secretariat Correspondent: The government has banned fishing in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Bay of Bengal using commercial fishing trawlers.
The 65-days ban will be effective from May 20 to July 23.
Kazi Shams Afroz, deputy director of Bangladesh Fisheries Department said the fishing ban will be imposed for next 65 days for the purpose of breeding and conservation of fish according to the power of Marine Fisheries Ordinance 1983, Part 11 Rolls 55 (2) B.
He said, Coast Guard, Naval Police, Border Guard Bangladesh-BGB and Rapid Action Battalion-RAB will play an effective role in implementing the ban.
