19 killed in Banani fire

Senior Correspondent: At least 19 people including a foreign national were killed and 68 others were injured in a fire that broke out at FR Tower in the capital’s Banani on Thursday.

Enayet Ullah, duty officer of Fire Service Headquarters, confirmed the death toll around 8:30pm.

Earlier Forman Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, confirmed death of seven people.

The deceased includes Parvez Sajjad, 47, Amena Yeasmin, 40, Mamun, 36, Sri Lanka national Niros Chandran, Abdullah Al Faruk, 32, Maksudur Rahman, 66 and Monir, 50, according to the OC.

The seven succumbed after they were taken to different hospitals. Bodies were kept at morgues of the hospitals.
