8 electrocuted in Sirajganj

Sirajganj Correspondent:  At least eight people were electrocuted at Kadai village in Sirajganj's Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased were Abdullah, 13, a class VII student and son of Abu Taher, Rafiqul Islam, 30, son of Habibur Rahman, Momin, 30, son of Kashem Ali, Sajib, 13, a class VII student and son of Abdul Alim, Abdus Sattar, 50, Reaz, 14, a class VIII student and son of Aminul Islam, Anwar Hossain, 35, son of Amin and Habib, 25, son of Abul Hossain of the village.

Local people said the incident took place around 12:00pm when 10-12 people came in contact of a live wire while shifting a makeshift shop, leaving them injured.

They were taken to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital where physicians declared eight of them dead.

The injured was being treated at the hospital.

Faridul Islam, a resident medical officer of Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, confirmed the deaths of eight people.

Sirajganj Sadar Upazila Chairman Md Riazuddin visited the spot after being informed about the incident.

Meanwhile, Ms Kamrun Nahar Siddika, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sirajgonj, immediately distributed Tk 25,000 to each of the victim families as financial help.
