8 plastic factories shut at Shahid Nagar

Staff Correspondent: A taskforce formed by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has shut down eight plastic factories after conducting a drive at Shahid Nagar in the city's Lalbagh area on Saturday noon and cut off electricity and gas connections in the factories.
The shutdown factories are Ujala plastic factory, Dada plastic factory, Udayan thread factory, Chobir plastic factory, Anisur Rahman plastic factory, Mujibur Rahman polythene factory, Rupali plastic factory and Raju plastic factory.
After the drive, Suborna Shirin, executive magistrate of Dhaka district and also the member of the taskforce, said, “The drive began on February 28 to remove different chemical godowns and illegal factories from Old Dhaka. We have conducted the drive for the second day and so far eight plastic factories have been closed. At the same time, electricity and gas connections were cut off from the factories.”
She warned of legal action against those reluctant to remove their factories.
It was part of a drive launched in the aftermath of the February 20 fire at Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka that has so far claimed 71 lives.
