Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: A mobile court in a drive has seized 80,000 sacks of rice from a warehouse at the Sagarika BSCIC industrial area in the port city.
The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Syed Murad Ali launched the drive at the warehouse of “Ahmed Trading” in the port city on Thursday noon and seized the rice in 80,000 sacks.
The magistrate said they seized the rice as the trading company, Masud and Brothers, stored the rice in the warehouse for the last 39 days in a bid to create artificial crisis in the local market.
Meanwhile, Masud and Brothers’ manager was detained from the spot for interrogation, said the magistrate.
The mobile team sealed the warehouse and gave its custody to Pahartali Police Station, he added.
The district administration has been conducting drives for last three days against hoarding additional rice and increasing the price of rice illogically.
