SC scraps HC order; No bar to declare 9th wage board

Staff Correspondent: The Supreme Court (SC) has scrapped a High Court (HC) order that directed to maintain a status-quo for two months on publication of gazette notification of the ninth wage board.

An Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Tuesday.

Lawyers said there is no bar from now to declare the ninth wage board for journalists and employees of newspapers.

Earlier on Monday, after concluding hearing on a government appeal on the ninth wage board, the bench fixed August 20 to pronounce its judgment.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state during hearing. AF Hasan Arif stood for NOAB.

The state sought a stay on the High Court Division order to maintain a status-quo for two months on publication of gazette notification of the ninth wage board.

Last month, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said a gazette will be published after the Cabinet approves recommendations for implementing the ninth wage board.

Quader said they made realistic recommendations after discussions with the stakeholders.
