AL leader shot dead in Kushtia

Kushtia Correspondent: Miscreants have shot an Awami League leader who recently joined Awami League quitting Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, an associated wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), to death at Ambaria in Mirpur upazila of the district on Wednesday noon.

The deceased was identified as Lutfar Rahman Sabu, 45, former organising secretary of the upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal. Recently Sabu joined the ruling party.

Eyewitnesses said Sabu came under attack by a group of miscreants in front of Ambaria graveyard at about 1:30pm while returning home on motorbike from Halsa Bazar.

The attackers hacked him with sharp weapons indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot, they said.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy, they added.

Meanwhile, Sabu’s supporters and local AL activists set fire to the house of Ambaria union council chairman Moshiur Rahman Milon who is loyal to Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) after vandalizing its furniture.

They claimed that Milon’s followers killed Sabu, also a BNP-supported chairman candidate in the last Union Council polls.

Confirming the matter, Mirpur Police Station officer-in-charge Qazi Jalal Uddin Ahmed said the reason behind the killing could not be known immediately.
