‘AL not embarrassed with cases over Dec 30 polls’

Senior Correspondent: Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said that his party is not embarrassed with cases filed by defeated candidates of BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront over the anomalies of the 11th parliamentary election held on December 30, 2018.

The Road Transport and Bridges Minister came up with the observation at a press briefing at the party president’s Dhanmondi office in the capital on Friday.

Quader said, “There is nothing to take the cases incognisance. The Election Commission (EC) has a full jurisdiction over polls if there is any question on it. If someone goes to tribunal after the decision of EC, the responsibility goes to the EC. The EC will face the lawsuits before the court. It will face the cases under the procedures. This is the rule.”

He said, “BNP is not participating in the upcoming upazila polls so that infighting increases in the ruling party men. But what’s the benefit for BNP here?”
