AL wins landslide victory

Staff Correspondent: The Awami League has won a landslide victory in the 11th parliamentary election held on December 30.
In the election, the Awami League won 259 seats by itself, while alliance partner Jatiya Party won 20 seats. Other constituents of the coalition won eight seats.
Through the landslide victory, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina made a history and is going to be the prime minister of Bangladesh for the fourth term.
According to the results announced by the Election Commission, an alliance led by Hasina’s Awami League won 288 of the 298 seats.
Of the 298 seats announced, AL secured 259 seats, Jatiya Party 20, BNP 5, Gono Forum 2, Bikalpadhara 2, Jasod (Inu) 2, Workers Party 3, Tarikat Federation 1, Jatiya Party (Monju) 1 and Independent got 3.
The balloting began at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm on Sunday (December 30) amid huge enthusiasm and festivity with 10, 42, 38,677 voters exercising their voting rights to elect 299 members of parliament out of 300. The election in Gaibandha-3 constituency was postponed due to the death of a candidate and voting for the seat will be held on January 27.
