ASI withdrawn over death of child during mugging

Staff Correspondent: An assistant sub inspector (ASI) has been withdrawn over the death of a five-month-old baby during mugging in Doyaganj area of the capital on Monday morning.
During the incident, ASI Badrul Alam who has been withdrawn was in charge of check post set up in the area as part of the regular activities.
Farid Uddin Ahmed, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) (Wari division), confirmed this to risingbd.com.
Earlier on Monday morning, a five-month-old baby fell off his mother’s lap and died when muggers tried to grab a bag off a running rickshaw in Doyaganj area of the capital.
The infant was Arafat, son of Shah Alam and Aklima Begum.
Sources said that Aklima Begum and her son Arafat were heading towards home from a relative's residence riding on a rickshaw in the early hours of Monday. Meanwhile, 2/3 snatchers grabbed a bag of mother Aklima and tugged. At one stage, the five-month-old baby fell down from her lap, leaving him critically injured.
Later, the critically injured baby was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where duty doctors declared him dead around 7:00am.
Following the death, Arafat’s father Shah Alam filed a case with Jatrabari Police Station accusing an unidentified person.
