Staff Correspondent: Agitating students on Tuesday set three buses ablaze and vandalised several vehicles in Uttara and Science Laboratory areas of the capital protesting the deaths of their two fellows in a road crash.
Later, law enforcers brought the situation under control.
Eyewitnesses said a group of students set two buses of Ena and Bushra Paribahan afire on Jashimuddin road in the city’s Uttara area around 3:00pm.
Later, they vandalised a number of vehicles passing through the road.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Another group of students blocked the Science Laboratory intersection in the capital around 12:15pm and set a bus ablaze in front of City College. Chase and counter chase between students and police took place during this time, according to the eyewitnesses.
Being informed, firefighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
Duty officer Ershad Hossain of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters confirmed the matter of the fire being extinguished.
On Sunday (July 29), Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road.
Angered by the incident, students went on a rampage vandalising whatever buses they found before them. They have been carrying on their agitations since then.
