SC upholds stay order Khaleda’s bail in Comilla case

Staff Correspondent: The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Monday stayed bail granted to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia by the High Court Division in a case filed in Cumilla.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order.
The court also issued a rule to settle the issue within four weeks.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state while Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda Zia.
Earlier on May 28, the High Court granted bail to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in two cases filed in Comilla.
Later, the government filed a petition with the Appellate Division seeking a stay on the bail order.
In one case Khaleda Zia was the accused of abetting the killing of eight passengers by torching a bus at Chouddagram, Comilla during the nationwide blockade of roads and highways in 2015. In the other case also she was accused of abetting of setting a covered van on fire at Chouddagram, Comilla.
