Atiqul new mayor of DNCC

Staff Correspondent: Awami League mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam has won the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-election with a big margin of votes.

Atiqul bagged 8,39,302 votes while his nearest contestant Jatiya Party leader Shafin Ahmed got 52,429 votes.

Returning Officer Abul Kashem announced the results from Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Friday night.

 

Three other candidates – – Anisur Rahman Dewan National People’s Party’s (NPP), Shahin Khan of People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) and independent candidate Abdur Rahim– contested the by-election to DNCC mayoral post.

The mayoral post fell vacant after the death of Anisul Huq on November 30, 2017.
