B Chy demands neutral govt, EC

Senior Correspondent: Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has demanded to form a neutral government and an Election Commission (EC) before the general election after dissolving the parliament.

The former president made the demand while speaking at a Iftar party at Polwel Convention Centre at Abdullahpur in the capital’s Uttara on Friday.

Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh Dhaka Metropolitan North Unit arranged the programme.

B Chowdhury said, “For an acceptable election, at first it is urgent to ensure level-playing field for all political parties. If there are different types of bars in this case, level-playing will not be assured. For this, at first it needs to dissolve the parliament. Then, a neutral government and a proved Election Commission (EC) are necessary.”

“As the incumbent government is frequently declaring that they are boldly confident with democracy, the main responsibility for this goes the present government. The level-playing fields will not be ensured if the thousands of political leaders are sent to jail,” he added.

He said, “We do not know who are being killed in name of drug peddlers. We do not know their identities. Allegations were raised that they were political activists. If political activists were killed in name of different excuses and kept confined in jail and left the field to a special side, it cannot be level-playing field and never be.”
