BFEA calls off decision on cinema hall closure

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association (BFEA) has called off its announcement on decision of shutting down cinema halls across the country from April. 12.
Iftekhar Uddin Naushad, president of Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association, and Sudipta Kumar Das, chief advisor of the organization, confirmed the matter, after holding a meeting with Information Minister at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Earlier the minister said in the meeting, “The films are the mirror of a society and it talks about the people. The films give entertainment too.”
Hasan said the film industry is one of the oldest media in Bangladesh.
Earlier, there were around 1200 cinema halls across the country which is now only below 200, he added.
He said, “There are many reasons for the closure of cinema halls in the country. We need to protect the film industry for the sake of cinema halls.”
Information Secretary Abdul Malek, among others, was present in the meeting.
