BGB man drowns in Satkhira

Satkhira Correspondent: A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel drowned after getting trapped in an underwater rope in Sonai River in Kalaroa upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Lance Naik Rafiq, 35, hailed from Kishoreganj district. He worked in Kakdanga Border Observation Posts (BOP).
Locals said that smugglers of Bangladesh and India borders use underwater ropes to smuggle goods in the river. The BGB personnel found the rope during a patrol duty in Dakshin Bhadialdi post no.1 around 9:30am on Saturday. Meanwhile, he tried to pull the rope but, the smugglers from Indian border also tried to pull the rope. At one stage, the BGB man went underwater with the rope.
Confirming the matter, Satkhira 33 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mahiuddin Ahmed said the body was sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue.
