BNP declares fresh rally in city

Senior Correspondent: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has again declared to hold a public rally in the capital demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

The party announced to observe the programme at Suhrawardy Udyan in city on March 11.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the announcement at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Thursday.

He said, "We’ve decided to hold a public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on March 11 (Sunday). We’ve already started taking necessary preparations for the programme."

"We have already sent letters to the DMP commissioner and Public Works department seeking permission for the rally," he added.

Rizvi also said earlier their party was denied permission to hold a rally on February 22 at the same venue showing causes of International Mother Language Day programme and Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Bangla Academy premises.

On February 8, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
