Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan
Staff Correspondent: Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan said that Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) is going to get six new ships from China by 2018.
The minister made the disclosure after addressing a programme in China on Saturday night.
Bangladesh will procure six new ships from China National Machinery Import & Export Corporation (CMC) at a cost of Tk1,843cr.
Earlier, a three-member delegation led by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan left Dhaka Monday night for China.
The two other members are- Additional Secretary of the Shipping Ministry M Abdul Kuddus Khan and BSC Executive Director (Technical) M Sayed Ullah.
Each ship will have 39,000 tonnes capacity. The six ships – three oil tankers and three bulk carriers – will be added to Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) fleet within 2018.
The oil tankers will be used to transport imported and refined petroleum from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation. The bulk carriers will be used to carry coal, fertilizer and bulk commodities.
