Bagaichhari death toll reaches 7

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram:  The death toll from an armed attack on election officials in Bagaichhari upazila of Rangamati district has reached seven.

A presiding officer and five others were shot dead by criminals on Monday evening. Another died on way to Chattogram.

They came under attack in Noymile area when they were returning to the upazila town after concluding vote counting in the second phase of the 5th upazila parishad elections.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagaichhari police station Monjur Alam confirmed this to risingbd.

Among the deceased, Abdul Hannan was identified as the presiding office of a polling centre in Bagaichhari upazila, he said.

The injured were admitted to Bagaichhari upazila health complex, the OC added.
