Bahar confesses to stabbing college girl Jhuma

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: Bahar Uddin, the prime accused of stabbing college girl Jhuma Akter in Sylhet, gave his confessional statement before a court on Thursday.

Jakiganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Khairul Amin recorded the statement on Thursday after noon and sent him to jail.

Habibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jakiganj Police Station, confirmed the news.

Police arrested the accused Bahar Uddin, son of Abdul Gafur of Rasulpur village, from a haor at Mirzarchak area of Sultanpur union of Jakiganj in the morning.

Jhuma Akter Suma, 18, an eleventh grade student of Ichhamati Degree College, was allegedly stabbed by Bahar Uddin on Sunday last for rejecting his proposal of marriage. She is now undergoing treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Karima Begum, mother of the victim, filed the case against three to four people including Bahar Uddin with Jakiganj Police Station on late Monday.

The stabbing incident happened after three and a half months of such an attack on college student Khadiza Akhter Nargis by a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader.
