Banani double rape: 7 Raintree workers give depositions

Staff Correspondent: Seven workers of The Raintree hotel of the capital's Banani, where two two university girls were raped, gave depositions in the case on Sunday.
Judge Shafiul Azam of Second Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression fixed May 17 for next depositions in the case, after recording their statement.
The witnesses are: Helal Mia, Farhad Hossain, Akter Banu, Shahidul Islam, Mahbubur Rahman, Ali Hossain and Farzana Bithi.
With this, a total of 12 witnesses gave depositions in the case, according to Ali Akbar, special Public prosecutor (PP) of the tribunal.
Main accused Ahmed Shafat, son of one of the owners of Apan Jewellers Dildar Hossain Selim, his aids Shadman Sakif and Nayem Ashraf alias H M Halim, who are currently behind the bar in the case, were produced before the court.
Besides, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat, who are on bail, also appeared before the court.
On May 6, 2017, a university student filed the case with Banani Police Station accusing Shafat, Sakif and three others bringing allegation of rape against them.
According to the case statement, two young men including Shafat raped the plaintiff and another university girl on March 28 last year at a birthday party at The Raintree Dhaka at Banani while three others assisted them.
