Bangladesh Today acting editor comes under targeted attack

Risingbd Desk: Jobaer Alam, the chairman and acting editor of national English daily The Bangladesh Today, came under a targeted attack in front of his Panthapath residence in Dhaka early Monday.

A press conference was held in this regard in the office of the English daily in the capital’s Panthapath around 12:00pm.

“I was attacked by some unidentified miscreants around 2:00am while I was returning to my Panthapath residence after concluding a family programme. The miscreants threw stones targeting a private car which I was driving. My wife was also inside the car. She was seriously injured as a chunk of stone broke the glass of the car and hit her. Later, she was rushed to central hospital nearby,” he told the press conference.

Terming the attack pre-planned, Jobaer drew attention of the authorities concerned for taking immediate steps.

Jobaer Alam, also the chairman of the Oceanography Department at Dhaka University (DU), came under the attack by some unidentified miscreants around 2:00am while he was returning to his Panthapath residence after concluding a family programme. The miscreants threw several large chunks of stones targeting a private car which was carrying Jobaer Alam and his wife. The glass of the car was broken into pieces. His wife was seriously injured as a chunk of stone broke the glass of the car and hit her. Later, she was rushed to central hospital nearby.

Mentionable, the acting editor also came under the similar attack around three months back.
