Bangladesh Women defend 136 to beat Proteas

Sport Correspondent: Bangladesh National Women Cricket Team on Monday defended a low total of 136 to beat visiting South Africa National Women Cricket Team in the third of a five-match One Day International series in Cox's Bazar.

 

The hosts defeated the visitors by 10 runs to make a good comeback in the series by 1-2.

 

Wining toss Bangladesh Women chose to bat first at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium and scored 136 all out in 49 overs. In response, South Africa Women were all out for 126 runs in 31.2 overs.

 

 

Bangladesh captain Rumana Ahmed scored 28 runs, highest for the hosts. Besides, Sharmin Sultana and Nigar Sultana added 21 runs each while 20 more runs came from extras to lift Bangladesh to 136 in 49 overs.

 

South Africa's Marizanne Kapp, Dane van Niekerk and Sune Luus took 2 wickets each.

 

To defend a low total, Bangladesh Women started well with the ball and broke the opening partnership just for 5 in the third over. The visitors kept loosing wickets in intervals and were folded for 126.

 

 

Opener Lizelle Lee, the Player of the Match in last two matches, and skipper Dane van Niekerk almost took the match out of the grips of Bangladesh.

 

Lee scored 46 runs off just 31 balls hitting 9 fours and a six. Niekerk was unbeaten on 42 off 65.

 

Khadijal Tul Kubra did excellent bowling and claimed 4 wickets for 33 runs. Panna Ghosh and Jahanara Alam took 2 wickets each.

 

 

Bangladesh's Khadija Tul Kubra was awarded the 'Walton Player of the Match' prize. 

 

Country's leading brand Walton is sponsoring the series which has officially been named as 'Walton Bangladesh-South Africa Women's ODI Cricket Series 2017'.
 
The visitors are leading the series 2-1 as they won the first match by 86 runs and the second by 17 runs.  


The rest of the matches will be held at the same venue on 18 and 20th January.
