Bangladesh strikes leave Zimbabwe reeling

Sports Desk: Taijul Islam struck in the first ball of his Twenty20 career as Bangladesh reduced Zimbabwe to 64-5 in 10 overs in the rain-hit opening match of tri-series tournament at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.

Taijuj, making T20 debut as Bangladesh’s 64th player, took the wicket Brendan Taylor as Mahmudullah took the catch at short third man.

Mustafizur Rahman removed Craig Ervine for 11 before Mohammad Saifuddin ended the positive innings of Hamilton Masakadza, who made 34 off 26 balls with five fours and a six.

Mosaddek Hossain took the fourth wicket when he removed Sean Williams for two while Timycen Maruma was run out for one.

Bangladesh skipper Sakib al Hasan won the toss and elected to field after the match was curtailed into an 18-over per side after a delayed start due to rain and wet outfield.

Bangladesh were looking to end the poor run of form with the match after they lost their last six international matches in all format.

This is the first international appearance for Zimbabwe after they were banned the International Cricket Council from taking part in any of its event.
