Bangladesh suffer narrow defeat against hosts in opener

Sports Desk: Bangladesh Under-16 Women’s Football team conceded 0-1 goal defeat against Thailand in the opening match of the eight-nation AFC U-16 Women’s Championship at Chonburi Stadium on Sunday.
 
After a barren first half, forward Thawanrat Promthongmee scored the matchwinner for Thailand in the 58th minute. 

Hosts Thailand put pressure on Bangladesh from very beginning of the match with their attacking football.

Bangladesh also played some good football in the first half to manage some good opportunities, but failed to utilize the chances. 

After goalless first half, Thai girls started their aggressive football in the 2nd half but most of their efforts went in vain in the final third. 

Thai forward Thawanrat Promthongmee scored the match decider in the 58th minute by a right-footed direct free kick (1-0). 

Thailand were awarded a free kick while Bangladesh defender Anai Mogini fouled onrushing Thai midfielder Janista Jinantuya outside of the danger zone  

Thailand could double the margin in the 85th minute as their substitute forward Suchavadee Chompaeng spoiled a penalty as her spot kick went outside hitting the post.  

Thailand got the penalty when Bangladesh vice-captain Akhi Khatun roughly tackled Suchavadee in the danger zone.

In the day’s first match, three-time champions Japan played out a goalless draw with Australia at the IPE Chonburi Stadium. 

With the day’s victory, Thailand dominated point table securing full three points, Japan and Australia follow the leader securing one point each while Bangladesh yet to open account. 
 
Bangladesh, who put in four-team Group A alongside hosts Thailand, Japan and Australia, will face Japan on September 18 and Australia on September 21 in their remaining group matches, both at IPE Chonburi Stadium.
