Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: Birangana (Liberation War Heroine) Rama Chowdhury died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital early Monday.

She was 82.

Alauddin Ahmed Khokon, private assistant of Rama Chowdhury and publisher of her book, said she breathed her last at 4:40am. She had been suffering from old age complications.

"She was taken to ICU around 11:30am when her physical condition severely deteriorated. She had been kept on life support at night. Later, she died early Monday,” said Alauddin Khokon.

The writer had been undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital since January.

Born at Popadia village in Boalkhali upazila in 1936, Rama Chowdhury fell a victim to perverted Pakistani military forces at her residence on 13 May, 1971 during the liberation war.

The freedom fighter wielded her pen and wrote 19 books, including novel, poetry, articles, alongside teaching in high schools.
