Boat capsize: 5 bodies recovered from Shitalakkhya

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: The bodies of five missing people have been recovered from the Shitalakkhya River.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station in Narayanganj said the body a victim named Tushar Ahmed was recovered from the river in Rupsi Kazipara area around 11:30pm on Saturday while four others were found floating in the same area around 10am on Sunday.

Earlier on Friday night, a total of 14 youths hired the boat from Demra Ghat for a pleasure trip. But, the boat sank in the mid-river in Rupsi Kazipara area after a sand-laden Bulkhead hit it from behind around 9pm, leaving the five people disappeared in the river.

The deceased were identified as - Latif Khan, Tushar Ahmed, Sharif Ahmed, Babu Mia and Jasim Uddin.

Saiful Islam Ripon Babu, trader Lateef Khan, Kamalapur Railway Station customs worker Jashim Khan and tailor Shareef.
