Staff Correspondent: Police filed a case with Ramna police station accusing 29 social media users and online news portals on charge of provoking students during the ongoing student protests.

The case was filed with the police station under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed this to risingbd.com on Sunday morning.

"Yeasin Meah, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the cybercrime unit under DMP, filed the case. An allegation of instigation has been brought against 29 social media users and online news portals. Further steps will be taken after investigation," Masudur said.

According to the case statements, the plaintiff alleged that provocative posts, writings and videos were uploaded through social media, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and online news portals and blogs, aiming to deteriorating the law and order.

Angered by the deaths of two college students in a road accident on Airport Road in the capital on July 29, students of schools and colleges across the country took to the streets and continued their demonstration since then demanding 9-point demands, including road safety.
