Charge sheet against 2 gun-toting ex-BCL leaders

Staff Correspondent: Police on Sunday submitted charge sheet against two expelled Chhatra League leaders in a case filed over brandishing firearms during a hawker eviction drive in Dhaka's Gulistan on October 27, 2016.

The charge sheet has been submitted against BCL Dhaka south and Wari thana units general secretaries Sabbir Hossain (30) and Ashiqur Rahman alias Ashik (21).

Sub-inspector (SI) Akram Hossain of Shahbagh Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court against them.

Earlier on April 10, SI Akram Hossain submitted the charge sheet to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court, said general registration officer (GRO) of the court Mahmudul Hasan today (Sunday).

On October 27, 2016, hundreds of hawkers locked into a clash with police after a team of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) officials, led by an executive magistrate, tried to carry out an eviction drive against illegal structures in Gulistan area.

The picture of Sabbir and Ashiqur brandishing guns during the clash appeared in the media the next day.

However, immediately after the incident, the two accused leaders were expelled by the ruling party's student affiliate.

The two expelled BCL leaders were denied bail and sent to jail by a magistrate court on February 9 last year after they surrendered before a Dhaka court in the case. Now, they are out of jail on bail.
