Chawkbazar fire originated from gas cylinder blast: Khokon

Staff Correspondent: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon said that the devastating fire that killed 67 people in old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar area originated from an explosion of gas cylinder of a private car.

The mayor came up with the comment while talking to newsmen after visiting the spot on Saturday noon.

“We have found a video footage leading to the origination of the fire incident. The fire erupted from a blast of gas cylinder of a private car. Later, the fire of the blast spread to another car standing nearby. The gas cylinder of the second car also went off, spreading the fire to a building and its adjacent areas in the twinkling of an eye,” Khokon said.

Mentionable, at least 67 people were killed and hundred others injured as a devastating fire originated in old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar area around 10.30 pm on Wednesday (February 20).
