Committee formed to bring discipline to city transports

Secretariat Correspondent: A committee has been formed to bring discipline to the transport system in capital.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the announcement while addressing reporters after a meeting at secretariat in the capital on Monday.

He said late mayor Anisul Haque (Dhaka North City Corporation) took initiatives to build a modern public transport system. He joined many meetings with transport owners. But, the issue did not get pace after his demise. 

"We gave the responsibility to Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon in this regard. The task of modern public transport system will go on under his leadership," he said.

Obaidul Quader also said, Easy-bike, battery-run three wheelers, Nasiman, Kariman will be controlled strictly. So, decision has been taken to deploy three magistrates in Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Khokon, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Nazrul Islam, Secretary of the Labour Ministry Afroza Khan, IGP Dr Mohammad Javed Patwari, DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, Transport owners association leader Khandakar Enayet Ullah and others attended the function.
